| Jammuites left at mercy of Gods, protesters | | Despite DM’s orders Police not allowing essential facilities, petrol pump staff brutally beaten up | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 2 Due to the deepening crisis in town obvious chinks and gaps between the administrative decisions and executing process have come to fore leaving people at the mercy of God or protestors. Ever since the eruption of tension in town and particularly after imposition of curfew on Tuesday, the top officers in the administration have been making tall claims of ensuring minimum facilities and essential commodities to the people. Several orders too have been issued in this connection but the cops on ground duty are not taking note of these orders. The district magistrate Jammu had on Tuesday issued an order that at aleast five petrol pumps shall remain open in the City to cater the minimum needs of the people. Most of these petrol pumps are located at such places where sensitive services like hospitals etc depend for fueling their vehicles. However, showing boots to the top administrative orders, the Police are not allowing these petrol pumps and other public utility stations to function. Not only this, the cops today launched physical attacks at such stations where the owners had been keeping the petrol pumps open to cater public needs at risk of loss to their property. In one such incident, a Police party today swooped at a petrol pump –Muktanand Auto Aids –in Talab Tillo area and mercilessly beat up the staff there. Dozens of commuters making a long queue to get their vehicles refilled were chased away and even those who had fueled their vehicles were not allowed to pay for. The staffs at the petrol pump when showed orders of district magistrate for keeping the petrol pump open, they were subjected the merciless beating. Later the matter was brought to the notice of Deputy Superintendent of Police ML Kaith who was supervising the situation; he too lashed out at the staff and said that he does not care for orders of the District Magistrate. Matter was later brought to the notice of higher authorities in the administration who assured to look into the matter. After many measures taken by the local administration, three top Ministers today also convened a meeting of civil administration and Police but in view of such attitude of some Police officers who are manning the situation the public has been left at the mercy of God and protesters. The Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister for Finance, Revenue and Planning Mr. B. R. Kundal and Minister of State for R&B Ch. Gharu Ram on Wednesday convened a high level meeting to review the arrangements made by the district administration during curfew. In the meeting, the health authorities were directed to gear themselves for meeting any emergency besides ensuring adequate medicare to ailing patients so that they do not face any inconvenience during curfew. PHE and PDD were asked to ensure regular supply of drinking water and electricity to people especially in odd hours. CAPD would arrange mobile vans for providing eatables and other essential items including LPG, Atta, Rice, Sugar, and Milk to people during relaxation period of curfew. |
