| 'Agitation to continue till revoke-order not withdrawn' | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 2 Sangarsh Samiti, the newly formed conglomeration of 28 political and social organisations in Jammu, said the present agitation will continue till the order revoking land allotment to the SASB is withdrawn. "The government had come under pressure of secessionist and fundamentalist elements in revoking the order of land allotment to the Amarnath shrine board, thus hurting the sentiments of the Hindus of the country," its convenor Leela Karan Sharma told reporters. "Our movement is peaceful and we will not allow Hindu-Muslim conflict during the agitation, he said and asked the Muslims of Jammu to support them. In reply to a question on the future course of action, he said they could intensify the agitation. "The samiti may be forced to go in for economic blockade of Kashmir and also demand a separate Jammu state." The conglomeration also asked elected representatives of the region to join the agitation and warned that if they failed, "we will be forced to ask people to boycott them socially". He also criticised Governor N N Vohra, the shrine board chairman, for "coming under pressure" and giving up claim on the transferred land and demanded his recall. Sharma condemned the attack on agitators in Bhaderwah and demanded deployment of the army there. Various organisations, including the Panun Kashmir, have also criticised the government decision on revoking the land allotment. "The revocation of decision on allotment of land to the shrine board by the JK government is a surrender before militants and separatists," Panun Kashmir convenor Agnishekhar said in Jammu. JK Vichar Manch demanded the recall of Vohra and alleged he had made the board a toothless organisation. The All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference also came down on the decision to revoke land allotment, saying it has "hurt the sentiments of the people". The Praja Parishad, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, All India Kashmir Samaj and All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee also attacked the decision and condemned police action on agitators in Jammu. |
