Srinagar | July 3
Five pilgrims headed to Jammu after a visit to the Amarnath cave shrine here were injured when their vehicle turned turtle on the Jammu-Pahalgam road in Anantnag district of south Kashmir Thursday, police said. The Tata Sumo in which the pilgrims were travelling overturned near Budran village, about 70 km from here, since the driver was speeding.
“The five injured pilgrims were rushed to a hospital. The condition of one of them is serious,” a police officer said.
Despite an indefinite curfew in Jammu and violence in several parts of the state over allotment of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), hundreds of pilgrims have been reaching the south Kashmir Pahalgam and north Kashmir Baltal base camps every day.
Over 380,000 devotees of Hindu god Shiva from across India have visited the cave shrine since June 18, when the two-month-long annual pilgrimage began.
