| NC seeks peace and harmony in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 3 An emergency meeting of the senior leaders of J&K National Conference was held here today at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu under the chairmanship of Shri Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu province to access the current prevailing situation of the state especially in Jammu region. It was felt that the government has failed in conducting Shri Amarnath Yatra smoothly and maintaining the law and order situation in various parts of the state. The administration could not arise to the challenges and concern posed by the situation. The people of all faiths feel that due to the wrong policies of the state government the whole situation has been exploited by the vested interests and communal forces. The J&K National Conference as a harbinger of harmony, peaceful existence and unity of all the people irrespective of caste, creed, colour and faith deem its responsibility to caution the government to take effective measures to restore the confidence of the people for their unity and welfare. The Provincial President addressing the meeting appealed to the people to strengthen their age old spirit of unity and coexistence which has remained an Article of faith of J&K National Conference. He also desired that instead of taking credit out of the situation, all the political and social organizations must realize that political motives should remain sub-serivent to the just cause of the masses. He added that playing politics at this juncture is harmful in the larger interest of the unity and integrity of the people of the state and the country. The leaders felt that attacks on yatris at some places call for strict vigil by the government so that no untoward happening takes place in future. The meeting also condemned the police firing and excesses committed upon the protestors at various places in and around Jammu and demanded due compensation to the injured and other aggrieved persons suffered during these days of unrest and agitation. The meeting lauded the role of the Jammuites and appreciated them for maintaining peace and harmony in Jammu and other areas of the province. The meeting also called upon the government to give relaxation in curfew so that the people could get essential commodities.
