| Power shock: 10-12 hours blackouts in offing | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 3 There is one good news and one bad news: the good news is that the power supply which went off late last night due to fire incident at Gladni Grid station was restored in a record time and electricity was on early this morning. And the bad news is that crisis in the transmission system is too deep which has forces the Power Development Department to resort to power cuts ranging from 10 hours to 12 hours in different localities on rotational basis. To be precise, for next few weeks –till the snag is corrected –we have will have electricity for half of a day and blackouts for remaining day. Second time in last 15 days, the Gladni Grid stations entered into major trouble snapping the power supply. Last night fire broke out at the Grid stations which took the fire tenders nearly 45 minutes to douse the flames. However, the Engineers put in their sweat for the night over and electricity was restored by 7 AM this morning. In view of unfortunate fire incident in one of the transformers of 400 MVA, 220/132 KV Bank at Grid station Gladni, Jammu, Minister of State for Power Mr Babu Singh said that the power supply to most of the areas of Jammu district and two districts of Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu province shall remain affected. He said that the engineers of PDD as well as expert engineers of firms are working round the clock to ensure speedy repairs of the damaged transformer. Briefing the media persons, Mr Singh said that the power supply to the extent of available 240 MVA has been pooled and made available from other 220/132 KV Grid Station i.e barn, Hiranagar and Udhampur at Jammu. As a conse3quence of which, there shall be net shortfall of power supply to the extent of 160 MVA for which the rotational curtailment on round the clock basis in various time slots to the extent of 10-12 hours. A day has become necessary and is being, therefore, enforced with heavy heart with immediate effect from various 33/11 KV receiving stations feeding power supply to the consumers of most of the areas of Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts till the time, the damaged transformer is repaired and put back to service at Grid station Gladni, Jammu. However, the Minister said that the PHE installations of Jammu city and two districts of Rajouri and Poonch feeding water supply to public and power supply to hospitals and other essential services of above districts shall continue to get uninterrupted power supply. The Minister appealed the public to bear with us and cooperate with the department and make judicious use of power supply and avoid use of air-conditioners electric gadgets etc so that the power supply is made available to the public as per the curtailment programme. |
