Jammu | July 4
In a joint statement issued here today some prominent citizens from various walks of life, have appealed to the people of Jammu to maintain perfect communal harmony and secular traditions of the region, in the wake of ongoing controversy over Amarnath yatra and the present agitation in Jammu as a mark of protest against the alleged role of the state government to submit before pressure from anti national and communal elements.
They have appealed to the protestors, who are holding demonstrations in various parts of Jammu region, to do the same peacefully without any act of violence. “Nothing should be done which in any way disturbs the communal brotherhood and creates communal divide and dissentions. Any movement against genuine grievances of the people should be given right and healthy direction and in no way should be allowed to take communal colouring. People have the right to give outlet to their grouse and feeling of hurt through peaceful means, confining their wrath against those who are hurling injustices on them. The communal and caste element should in no way be allowed in highlighting of the grievances and standing against injustice,” the citizens have said.
The signatories to the statement, included Yash Bhasin, a senior journalist, D K Khajuria, senior Advocate, Inderjeet Khajuria, Convener Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, H S Anand of Hotel Asia, Kuldeep Wahi, President JPVM, Maulvi Ghulam Nabi Faridabadi, Amam Jamia Masjid Ibrahim, Prof. Mohammad Ayub Sheikh, Ex Secy. J&K BOSE, malik Abdul Latif Retd. DSP, Abdul Majid, President Jammu Muslim Federation, S Gajan Singh, President Kalgidar Gurudwar Prabandhak Committee and Mrs. Lalita Nagar, Ex Pratinidhi Kastorba Gandhi National Memorial Trust J&K
The signatories to the statement have also appealed to the people belonging to all communities all over Jammu to uphold unity and solidarity in defeating the nefarious designs of anti national, anti people and communal elements. They should also remain guard against some politicians with vested interests who exploit the situation by creating communal divide and hatred, pursuing vote bank politics. The people should also remain guard against agents provocateurs, planted by the enemy of the people and the peace and the cause for which they are fighting, to communalize the situation, with a view to defame them and defeat their cause. Since Jammu region has a mixed population of Hindus and Muslims, any communal divide, will only harm the cause of Jammu, the state as well as the country as a whole.
They have also assailed the authorities for clamping uncalled for indefinite curfew almost all over Jammu region, continuously for last 5 days, without any relaxation, causing undue hardships and miseries to the people at large. This betrays government's total insensitiveness to the sufferings of Jammu people.
