| 1,000 pilgrims cancel Amarnath trip | | | Nagpur | July 4The turmoil following the Amarnath land transfer row has certainly left the pilgrims a dejected lot, especially after the yatra was deferred by the government. At least, a thousand pilgrims from Nagpur have cancelled their Amarnath pilgrimage plans, sources said. A batch of 200 businessmen from Kalamna grain market cancelled their yatra plans this week. Apart from them hundreds of families and individuals, who had booked their train tickets between July 1-7 have cancelled their plans too. Sources said that a batch of about 100 pilgrims had planned to board the Chennai-Jammu Tawi Express on Thursday night. However, peeved by the bandh and the prevailing uncertainty, about 20 pilgrims decided to cancel their plans at the last moment. Mangesh Gajapure missed out on a ninth consecutive annual trip to Amarnath as he had to cancel the pilgrimage due to the VHP-sponsored bandh on Thursday. "Ever since the news was flashed that a nationwide bandh was caked by VHP and BJP, my family compelled me to cancel my trip," said Gajapure. "Along with me another three-four families too cancelled their plans," he said, adding, "Why do these people (read VHA and BJP) resort to these? We get just two months for Baba's darshan. And if such manmade obstacles crop up, then it hurts a lot." |
