News Analysis
True to our prediction made under the News Analysis with the heading "Is Gen Sinha, like Jagmohan, being pushed into BJP lap?", Early Times June 14 issue, the PDP and the Central Congress leadership have contrived to finally push former J&K Governor Gen S K Sinha into the BJP lap. While PDP along with all the secessionist and Islamic fundamentalist elements in Kashmir have for past sometime been dubbing Gen S K Sinha as a camp follower of Hindutava forces, pursuing their agenda in Kashmir and a BJP man, the statement issued recently by Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan, blamed former J&K Governor and Chairman SASB, Gen. Sinha, for being responsible for the present turmoil and flare up in Jammu and Kashmir with overtones of communal dissention. Mrs. Natrajan had also charged Gen. Sinha of creating similar dissentions in Assam, when he was Governor of that state. Since the statement had come from Mrs. Jayanti Natrajan as Spokesperson of All India Congress Committee, the same can be construed as the official line of the Congress at national level, particularly when the same has not been contradicted or any difference opinion about Gen. Sinha from any Congress leader of consequence, has come.
On the other hand Gen. Sinha has categorically stated PDP as anti national and charged the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of working with fundamentalists in Kashmir. In a statement Gen. S K Sinha, whose conduct as the J&K Governor and Chairman of SASB has been sharply criticized by the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists in Kashmir, with PDP fully endorsing the allegations leveled against him by the Kashmiri separatists and fundamentalists, has in a forthright interview in New Delhi on July 3, while holding Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the PDP securely responsible for the present chaotic situation in Jammu and Kashmir, has also criticized the Central leadership of the Congress and the Union government of giving long rope to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, his party PDP and all sorts of secessionists and fundamentalists in Kashmir by going all out of way to appease them, even at the cost of national unity and India's interests in J&K. Gen. Sinha has leveled the charges against Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Islamic fundamentalists in Kashmir as well as the dubious role of the Central leadership of the Congress and the UPA government, which are identical to the charges leveled by the BJP, VHP and other pro Hindu organizations in the country. Gen. Sinha is forthright in sharply criticizing the Central Congress leadership of even going to the extent of letting down their own party Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad in J&K, in order to placate and appease Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and anti India elements in Kashmir.
This development has definitely come as a shot in the arm of BJP, VHP and their Hindutava allies in the country. Thus the history of 1990 is being repeated. Then the Congress, notably the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi by sharply criticizing then J&K Governor Jagmohan, at Srinagar had virtually dubbed him as a BJP and RSS ideologue by suggesting abrogation of Article 370, had virtually pushed Jagmohan to the BJP camp. Before that Jagmohan had been on the side of the Congress, being a close confident of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her younger son Sanjay Gandhi, doing every thing on their bidding during the dark days of emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in the country. He had also acted on the bidding of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, as Governor of J&K during his first tenure from 1984, to topple the National Conference government in the state, headed by Farooq Abdullah, through engineering split in the ruling party, facilitating the NC defectors led by G M Shaw to form the government. But, Rajiv Gandhi by acting indiscreetly, through Jagmohan into the BJP camp. The history is today repeating after 18 years, with the Central leadership of the Congress all set to push Gen. S K Sinha to the BJP camp. Like Jagmohan which gave went to his disillusionment about the policy pursued by the Central government in handling the situation in Kashmir, making sensational revelations of many elements in the state administration and political dispensation being hand in glove with the secessionist and Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, in his book "My Frozen Turbulence". Ironically Gen. Sinha has also made known his plan to write a book making all the revelations and his assessment and perception of the situation in J&K and the inept handling of the same by the Congress led UPA government. Even if Gen. Sinha does not formally join the BJP or any other RSS floated outfit, he has virtually become their ally and camp follower. He had served their cause, by endorsing their view point about the perception with regard to the situation in J&K. He can prove an asset to the BJP and the RSS in their ideological war fare against the Congress and other anti BJP and anti RSS forces in the country.
