Fast track: 70 activists released
Corporator denied bail, sent to jail

More than 70 political activists from different parties during the ongoing protests and demonstrations were today released on bail as two local courts cleared more than 100 bail applications moved by the Legal Aid Committee of Jammu Bar Association.
Prominent among those released on bail today were senior BJP leaders Dr Nirmal Singh and Chowdhary Piara Singh. The court, however, refused bail to Corporator Sheila Kaul Handoo who has been sent to judicial custody till July 13.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu YP Bourney and Special Municipal Magistrate MS Parihar today held Court at Janipur Court Complex and decided more than 100 bail applications including the bail application Dr. Nirmal Singh former BJP State President.
CJM Jammu today granted bail in favour of Dr. Nirmal Singh State President BJP with the direction to furnish bail bond to the tune of Rs 5000/-. Courts also granted bail in favour of Chander Mohan Sharma a senior BJP leader and Vikram Singh s/o Ch. Piara Singh with same directions and also decided other bail applications. In all these bail applications members of the legal Aid Committee constituted by the Bar Association Jammu have appeared on behalf of applicants. It is worthwhile to mention during the Curfew period today is the first day when the CJM and Duty Magistrate have holds the Court for hearing the bail applications of those persons who had been arrested by the police during the Curfew and or during the protest organized by the different political parties against the order of taking back land which was earlier allotted to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
Meanwhile, Sheela Handoo Koul Corporator who was arrested by the Domana police was today produced in the Court of Duty Magistrate Jammu for remand.
In the remand application it was mentioned that the said corporator was arrested u/s 436 RPC, 147/148 and 188 CRPC. In the meanwhile a bail application has been filed for grant of bail of corporator; Duty Magistrate Special Municipal Magistrate MS Parihar directed the police to file report in the bail application and granted judicial remand upto July 13, 2008 and sent to her to Judicial Lock-Up.
It is worthwhile to mention here that section 436 RPC is exclusively triable by the Sessions Court.
