Jammu | July 4
• Bhaderwah tense, no curfew relaxation
• Protestors defy curfew, clashes reported
• 35 injured, 100 arrested from several places
• Mob attacks Police vehicle, militant, cops beaten up
Even as Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad continued to camp in the town for second consecutive day holding hectic parleys with different shades of opinion for restoring some semblance of orders, the ongoing violent protests and demonstrations refused to ebb on the fourth day of strike across Jammu region.
Curfew continued to remain enforced in Jammu, Samba and Kathua with some intermittent relaxation in the evening during which people made hectic purchases of essentials. While no major violent incident has been reported during the curfew relaxation even though protesters defied restrictions in various areas during the day to lodge demonstrations.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate Jammu curfew was relaxed today in Bakshinagar and Janipur from 5 PM to 6 PM and in Gandhinagar, Trikutanagar and Satwari from 6 PM to 7 PM. People of these areas were requested to purchase the essential commodities from their nearest government depots or shops during the relaxation period.
At least 35 persons have been reported injured in group clashes with Police in different parts of the region. The Rapid Action Force deployed in the sensitive areas took out a peace march to restore confidence but people continued to protest on streets.
Even though authorities claimed that complete normalcy returned to Katra town, but the overall situation across the region remained volatile.
In a major incident of mob violence angry protesters caught hold of a militant and torched police van in which he was traveling near Ghagwal. The militant has been identified as Aijaz Hussain of Hizbul Mujahideen and was being shifted from Kulgam to Kathua jail.
Police said "angry mob Friday torched police van in which a police team was traveling along with Hizbul Mujahideen militant near Ghagwal on Jammu Pathankot highway".
Timely action by the army men in the vicinity saved the situation and the police party was saved from the angry mob. The Hizbul Mujahideen militant was handed over by protesters after he raised pro India slogans.
Meanwhile situation in the adjoining areas showed no signs of improvement. Police force in order to prevent situation going out of hands is not taking any punitive action against the protesters giving them enough opportunity to assemble and hold demonstrations. The protesters continue to burn effigies and take out long marches. Since morning police fought pithed battles with agitators in Bantalab area,RS Pura ,Muthi,Digiana. Similar protest demonstration were held in Udhampur, Katra, Reasi, Samba, Kathua, Vijaypur, Bhour camp.
