| ‘Separate Jammu state only solution to present impasse’ | | | Early Times Reporter

Amarnath Gupta, Convener Jammu Sangarsh Smiti has said that the present sharp division and clash of ideological thrusts between Jammu region and Kashmir valley have brought to the fore the incompatibility of the two regions and their wedlock being totally unnatural and unrealistic. The only solution to the mutual regional tensions between Jammu region and Kashmir valley is their separation and forming of two separate states of Jammu and Kashmir, with Ladakh being made a Union territory as per the demand of the people there.
Addressing a media conference here today, Gupta said there is nothing in common between the two main regions of the state. Kashmir valley stands for secession from India or for lose integration with the country, whereas Jammu people are out and out Indian nationalists and they want the state to be an integral part of India like any other state. The present divide and extreme divergent outlets of the sentiments of two regions can not be reconciled. Let Kashmiris be governed as they want, retaining Article 370 or the constitutional relationship of Kashmir with the rest of India reverting back, while for Jammu 370 should be abrogative, after forming of two separate states. So long as Jammu and Kashmir are one political unit, Jammu shall have to play a second fiddle to the Kashmiris and will be subjected to raw deal and even their religious sentiments will not be honoured, as has happened in the present case, with the state and the central governments surrendering before the blackmail and pressure mounted by the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists, while its natural and genuine reaction in Jammu region is being suppressed by the Kashmir Centric government, with the connivance of pro Kashmiri Central government, is sought to be suppressed by imposing indefinite curfew for last five days, without any relaxation, causing untold miseries to the people at large, who are denied all the essentials of daily use, besides their freedom to move about.
Terming the curfew imposed in Jammu, with every likelihood of the same getting extended, till the people are forced to submission, as an extreme step of repression against people giving outlet to their genuine hurt and grouse, Gupta said that in Kashmir where the situation had taken a worst violent turn as well as anti India and pro Pak overtones, with anti India, pro Pakistan and pro freedom slogans being shouted and Pakistani flag hoisted at Lal Ckowk Srinagar, the authorities remained silent spectator to the same and allowed the cause of the country getting suffered.
Holding in the secessionists and Islamic fundamentalists in Kashmir and the connivance of PDP and its leaders Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and others with the anti national elements, responsible for the present unrest in Jammu, Mr. Gupta appealed to the people of Jammu to maintain perfect communal harmony and brotherhood. The agitation should get pro Jammu and separate Jammu state outlet and not against any religious community or even against the common people in Kashmir. The communal divide suits the game plan of anti national elements and then secessionists who want to create anarchy and chaos in the state and particularly in Jammu, towards the achievement of their nefarious design. The people of Jammu belonging to all communities should remain united and support the present movement, which in fact is the manifestation of pent up resentment of Jammu against the hegemony of Kashmiri politicians over them and raw deal being meted out to them in every field. |
