| Centre keen on keeping NC and PDP in good humour | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 5 The UPA Government in the centre is unlikely to annoy the PDP and the National Conference when the Congress led Government banks on each vote in the Lok Sabha when it also is expected to face the vote of nonconfidence. The National Conference has two MPS and the PDP has one.Reports said that the Congress high commnand has started keeping both the National Conference and the PDP in good humour. These reports said that since the UPA Government was keen to win the vote of confidence of the Lok Sabha both Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh, and the AICC chief,Ms Sonia Gandhi have remained mute spectators on the row over the diversion of 800 kanals of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board.Though the order has been revoked,it has not quelled violence in the Jammu region. It has brought about peace in the Kashmir valley. Initially the Congress high command left it to the hands of Ghulam Nabi Azad to tackle the situation in the state. Now the centre finds itself caught between the devil and the deep sea.The security scenario in Jammu and the decision of the leftists to withdraw the support to the Government have kept the Congress high commnd on the tenterhook. It hs received support from its major political foe,the Samajwadi Party, still it has to seek the support of parties that have one to five MPS.It is in this context that the importance of the two NC and one PDP MPs have risen in the eyes of the UPA Government. Indications are that the PDP and the NC MPs are likely to support the Congress led Government in the centre because both wish to keep the option of joining hands with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir once the next Assembly election threw up a hung Assembly. At present the NC nd the PDP are engaged in the game of chess.Their aim is to checkmate each others'bid at regaining power. |
