| Withdraw curfew forthwith | | | | It speaks volumes about the failure of the ruling dispensation as well as the administration in the state to read the writing on the wall and the public mood, which has led the situation in Jammu to the present state of affair, with the authorities finding no way out to come out of the blind allay, to enter which has been their own creation. Even despite imposing curfew continuously for seven days, confining the people at large inside their houses, leading to untold miseries and sufferings to the common man, the situation is far from getting improved. Rather the same is worsening with every passing day and the administration extending the curfew, without any relaxation. The imposition of curfew continuously for seven days, without any break, while speaks on one hand the total insensitiveness of the authorities to the sufferings being caused to the people, who are denied items of daily need, including milk for children, medicines for the ailing, fresh vegetables and even ration and provisions like rice, atta, edible oil and pulses etc running out of stock from the households of the common people with limited income, it also betrays government's failure to tackle the situation through democratic means without resorting to repression. Despite all these draconian actions, with heavy doze of curfew and other restrictions imposed on the movement of the people, the situation has hardly been brought under control. Rather with every passing day the situation is worsening, with people here and there coming out, defying curfew and holding demonstrations, invariably leading to clashes between the police and the demonstrators, which even take a violent turn. After being failure to bring the situation to normal, even by imposing curfew for seven days, what more and harsher bitter doze government can administer to the revolting people. The proper course for the government is to take a large body of people into confidence and with their help try to defuse the present volatile situation, instead of shutting the people inside their houses, causing sufferings to the people, which is only adding fuel to the fire of their resentment and anti government feelings. The imposition of curfew has not served the desired purpose. It has only harden attitude of the protestors, with common people's sympathy going with them, since the curfew and other repressive measures are being interpreted as vindictive action taken by the government. A large number of statements coming from various sections of the people making appeals for maintaining peace and communal harmony are a healthy sign. If any sense of imagination and tactfulness is left with the concerned authorities, the curfew should be lifted immediately and steps taken to restore the confidence of the people in the administration, even though they lack the confidence in the ruling dispensation. |
