Jammu | July 5
As outcome of continued protest by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena activists along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway ,thousands of people remained stranded in Jammu, winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports pouring in from various areas revealed that Kashmiri vehicles are being targeted in Udhampur, Rembel, Chenani and Kud areas and hundreds of people have been thrashed by the violent protestors, since last one week.
"I returned from Nandni area after seeing number of vehicles with damaged wind shields", Rasheed Ahmed of Baramulla, Kashmir told News Agency of Kashmir. "I was told that Kashmir bound vehicles are being specifically targeted by the protestors and the passengers are being thrashed in presence of the police personnel", he added.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that none of the vehicle carrying registration number from any part of Kashmir is now being allowed by the police to move from Kud towards Jammu and vice versa from Nagrota towards Kashmir.
The situation along the Highway has led to a grave situation from the non-locals, who remained stranded in Jammu and most of them are now running out of the money. "I am waiting from last one week but no vehicle is moving towards Kashmiri fearing attack at Udhampur", Ghulam Rasool of Dooru said adding "We are four persons sharing one room but each one of us are now running short of money".
The situation is similar for the stranded passengers belonging to Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts. There were reports from that people from these three districts were also brandished as Kashmiris and thrashed by the protestors.
"At various places the Shiv Sena activists patrol the Highway so as to ensure that no Kashmir bound vehicle is passed through Udhampur", sources said adding, "People were now traveling in the night hours but the practice stopped after fresh attacks on vehicles during the evening hours near Udhampur".
