| Major tragedy averted: 15 remote control IEDs, 44 UBGL grenades recovered | | Militant commander killed in Doda | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 5 While Army claims to have averted a major tragedy in Banihal area along National highway by recovering 15 IED's and 44 UBGL grenades, A LeT commander was killed in an encounter in mountainous Doda district. Informed Sources said that troops of 12 RR recovered fifteen (15) remote control Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and 44 UBGL grenades from Nari Village of Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. They said troops were on routine checking of the villages adjoining the National Highway when they recovered the explosive from a militant hideout. Sources further said that the explosives could have been used on highway to disrupt people movement, particularly the Amarnath pilgrims. However, security personnel have launched massive search operation in the area. Meanwhile, army gunned down a militant commander in an encounter in Doda district this morning, Official sources said that security forces and police launched a joint operation, after receiving a tip off about the movement of the militants, in Fulail area near Laldraman, Doda during the wee hours today. The operation led to an encounter between the troopers and the militants. One militant was killed in the gun battle that followed, sources told News Agency of Kashmir. The slain militant has been identified as Tawheed Ahmed son of Ghulam Haider Bhat of Saizan Doda. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from his possession. Defense spokesman Lt Col SD Goswami told News Agency of Kashmir that troops of 10 RR on specific information launched a search operation in the area. He said as the troops were zeroing in the targeted area during the wee hours today, a group of militants opened fire on them.
