| Fire in Kashmir’s historic shrine, relic safe | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 5 In yet another fresh round of tension in Kashmir, historic shrine holding relics of the Holy Prophet was damaged in a fire at Soura on the outskirts of Srinagar. There was no damage to the relics, police said. A Police spokesman said a fire incident took place at Jenab Sahib, Soura. The Police and general public tried to extinguish the fire and Fire and Emergency department was also informed. Fire was brought under controlled. No damage was caused to holy relic or the Shrine. Senior police officers who rushed to the spot said that it looked a case of accidental fire apparently; however Police is investigating further in matter. Residents of the area said they heard the sound of a blast that sparked a fire in the shrine’s dome Saturday afternoon. “The fire spread to the top floor of the shrine. Fire tenders reached the spot immediately and were able to control the blaze,” said Mudasir a resident of the area. A senior police officer, however, said the fire started after an electric short circuit. Hundreds of angry residents came out on the streets and pelted stones at the police and paramilitary forces that had been rushed to the area. |
