| Situation still tense, Samiti’s decision today | | Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Bhaderwah reel under curfew | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 5 The volatile situation arising out of the failed land deal continued to remain tense for the sixth consecutive day across the region as protests and demonstrations with no significant relent in the urban areas now have spread to the rural areas as well. With some relaxations curfew remained imposed in Jammu City where the areas of old city, Muthi and Domana remained tense for the day. Thousands of people still fought pitched battles with the security forces in Muthi Domana area in which dozens have been reported injured. Heavy deployment of security forces was seen across the town where the troops of Rapid Action Force marched across roads and streets to maintain order. Though no major incident of violence or vandalism of property has been reported but situation remained tense. In almost all parts of city curfew was relaxed in the evening for two hours and later extended by some more time during which no major violation has been reported. Authorities were yet to announce a decision on revocation of curfew. “We are still examining the situation to take a final decision”, said a senior member of administration. The all-party Sangharsh Simiti on the land transfer issue will be holding a meeting tomorrow to adopt future course of action on shut down. The present extended call is valid till Sunday evening. Situation also remained tense in Samba and Kathua districts. While in Samba, after a brief relaxation, curfew has been extended for three days. In Kathua, the agitated people openly defied the curfew restrictions and came on roads to continue their protests and demonstrations. Communal tension again erupted in the sensitive township of Bhaderwah during curfew relaxation forcing authorities to re-impose curfew. Reports said that curfew was lifted in Bhaderwah to gauge the situation but members of both communities came eye to eye wih each other sparking off another round of communal tension. Immediately after the tension local administration again imposed curfew in Bhaderwah which remained in force till last reports poured in. Meanwhile, the local courts here today released over 100 more activists of different parties on bail who were arrested during the ongoing agitation. The Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu YP Bourney today granted bail to Advocate Romesh Arora Spokesman BJP who was arrested. Court while granting bail asked Mr. Arora to furnish bail bond and personal bond to the tune of Rs 5000 each. CJM Jammu besides Adv Romesh Arora has also granted bail more than 40 persons who were arrested by the police during the curfew period. In the meanwhile Duty Magistrate MS Parihar today granted bail to two corporators namely Baldev Singh and Sunbash Chander Verma and also granted bail to about fifty persons. These bail applications were filed by Free Legal Aid Committee Constituted by the Bar Association Jammu for providing free legal aid to the victims who were arrested during the agitation regarding the land transfer order revoked by the State Govt. Today President Bar Association Jammu Adv BS Salathia, Vice President CM Sharma, General Secretary Pawan Maini along with other members of the Bar appearing for the applicants. According to the secretary Bar Association today about 100 bail applications have been decided by the Courts of CJM and Duty Magistrate. |
