| Jawan shot dead in case of mistaken identity | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 7 In a case of mistaken identity, an Army jawan was on Monday shot dead by his colleagues near the Line of Control in Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. Sepoy Satish Kumar of 20 Rashtriya Rifles received a gun shot injury when he was fired upon by an operational party due to mistaken identity near Kakwa Gali in Karnah sector of the district, a police spokesman said. He said Kumar, who later succumbed to his injury, was leading another party towards Kakwa Gali for post duties. Karnah sector witnessed fierce gunbattles between militants and Army in a five-day long operation last week which left 12 militants and six Army personnel, including three junior commissioned officers dead. The troops were on high alert in the sector following infiltration attempts by militants from across the border. Meanwhile, a labourer from Jharkhand was killed and two others injured when a rock fell on their shed near Lal Pul in Uri sector of Baramulla district this morning. Deceased Hardhan Bawan was working with the border roads organisation, the spokesman said adding the rock rolled down a hillock due to incessant rains. Bawan died instantly, while two others were shifted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be serious, the spokesman said. |
