| Scribe molested by two railway employees | | | Mumbai | July 7 A woman journalist (name withheld) was allegedly abused and manhandled by two employees of the Central Railway (CR). The victim, travelling in the first-class compartment of a Titwala-bound local, claimed the accused were in an inebriated condition. The accused, assistant yard station manager SA Patil and his junior Ravindra Thakur, were arrested by Kurla railway police station on charges of molestation, assault and outraging the modesty of a woman. According to the victim, who works for a news service, she boarded the train at 11 pm on Saturday at Sion station with a friend. “On seeing me, the two men started passing lewd comments. I tried to ignore them but they started to use abusive language and one of them even tried to brush his hand against mine. That’s when I lost my cool,” she said. Soon after, the victim along with her friend Dharmendra Tiwari confronted the duo. “We were about to alight at Ghatkopar station but Patil began to use foul language. I then pulled him by the collar and took him to the police,” said Tiwari, who works for a private news channel. Tiwari also said that initially the railway police were reluctant to register a complaint and agreed only after several calls to higher ups. “What shocked me was that they were trying to book us for assaulting an on-duty public servant,” he said. CR has suspended the duo after the incident and initiated an inquiry. |
