Udhampur traders call off strike

Following deaths of two persons in Jammu on Sunday, the curfew restrictions were continued in Jammu, Samba, Bhaderwah and Kathua. However, trading community of district Udhampur has called off their strike after the resignation of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Sources said that two persons identified as Manjeet Singh of Bhaderwah and Ramesh Kumar of Pir Mitha have lost their lives during the seven-day-long agitation against the against the revocation of land diversion to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
Meanwhile, amidst sporadic incidents of violence, all curfew affected districts observed complete and peaceful bandh which entered seventh consecutive day today. Even after the fall of Azad led state government, Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Sanghrash Samiti-a conglomeration of 32 organizations- today declared that the ongoing struggle would continue unless the demands of removal of Governor N N Vohra and cancellation of revocation of land transfer order are fulfilled.
Reports said people at some places in Jammu distributed sweets after the news of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's resignation to the Governor.
Sources informed that the relatives and local people of Pir Mitha today staged protest demonstration outside Deputy Commissioner Office and demanded suitable compensation to the family of deceased who had received fatal injuries after he fell off the roof of a three-storey building while being chased by the police during protests at Pir Mitha locality on Sunday.
Sources added, "The protestors after the announcement of district administration that Rs two lakh would be given to the family of deceased and a government job in Jammu and Kashmir Police department for his wife, lifted the protest. The deceased was cremated this evening where thousands of people from all walks of life were present." Earlier, the family members of the deceased alleged that Ramesh Kumar fell off the roof of a three-storey building while being chased by the police.
Reports said that some protestors who were protesting against the death of Ramesh Kumar smashed a vehicle of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and raised "anti-police" and "anti-administration" slogans. "Some people also damaged the electronic meters in Pir Mitha and its adjoining areas to lodge their protest against the death," maintained reports.
Sources said that the family members of Manjeet Kumar have lodged a written complaint against the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Medical Superintendent of Government Medical College Jammu for allegedly shifting his body to Bhaderwah without their consent. "While district administration has lodged a written complaint against the Bharatiya Janta Party and its allies to making family members of deceased hostage," sources informed.
Defying curfew restrictions, thousands of protestors took out a massive protest rally in Bantalab area and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, PDP and Hurriyat leaders. Reports from different parts of the Jammu city informed that people defied curfew restrictions at several places and staged protest against the state government.
Reports from Kathua and Samba said that complete and peaceful bandh was observed in the town as district administration relaxed curfew for over five hours. However, the protestors also blocked Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for over two hours.
Reports from Bhaderwah informed that the district administration gave no relaxation in curfew restrictions in view of death of grenade attack injured at Government Medical College on Sunday. Meanwhile, the trading community has called off their seven-day-long strike after the resignation of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
