Drugs out, sports in: 170 players participate in 3rd JKAUMA national winter camp
2/18/2020 9:58:17 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 18 : About 170 players, including girls, of different states participated in the third National Winter Camp organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Unified Martial Arts (JKAUAM) to promote healthy living through martial arts and raise awareness about ill effects of drug addiction in J&K.
During the camp, which was supported by AS cements, JKAUMA also hosted first Winter Tong IL Moo Do seminar that was held in the run up to the national championship that will be held in Srinagar in the month of July. The seminar was held under the supervision of Tong IL Moo Do Federation of India Secretary General Mohammad Arshad.
The four-day winter camp was organised by JKAUMA under its 'Drugs Outs, Sport In' initiative, which has witnessed an overwhelming response by youth in schools and colleges. JKAUMA, under the flagship programme 'Drugs out, Sports in', has been organising seminars in different schools and colleges from last about one year across Kashmir valley to raise awareness about drug addiction and its ill effects.
The national winter camp, which saw participation from Delhi, Maharashtra and J&K, was flagged off by ADC Srinagar, Khursheed Ahmad, at Gindun Stadium on February 13 and concluded on Sunday.
"The idea behind organising winter and summer camps is to give an opportunity to young players to experience the joy of camping, which has been lost due to the current situation. As it is a national camp, it also gave an opportunity to our players to interact with youth from other parts of the country," Tanzeel Ahmad, one of the organiser of the event said.
He said during the camp, the association not only tried to impart martial arts training to the participants, but also held seminars and interactive sessions to raise awareness about ill effects of drug addiction. "Promoting healthy living through martial arts and raise awareness about ill effects of drugs and its impact on the families of the victims was the prime focus during the camp," he added.
He said that this camp was special as a Tong IL Moo Do seminar was also held during which senior players were trained so that they can qualify examination and perform duty of referees in the upcoming national event which will be hosted in Srinagar. ''About 18 states, besides J&K, are expected to participate in the national tournament,'' he added.
