| Constable killed in grenade attack | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 10 constable was killed and another injured while a senior police officer had a narrow escape in two different grenade attacks by militants in Kupwara and Srinagar districts, official sources said today. A constable of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed on the spot and another was critically wounded when militants hurled a grenade at a police checkpost at Kralgund-Handwara, 100 kms from here in Kupwara district last night. The deceased constable was identified as Irfan Ahmad Tantray and the wounded constable as Muzaffar Ahmad, sources said. A combing operation was launched in the village to nab the militants responsible for the act, but no one has been arrested. In another incident, militants lobbed a grenade on the vehicle of sub-divisional police officer M R Gunj Farooq Ahmed at Bemina bypass in the city around 10 pm last night. However, the device missed its target and exploded on the road without causing any damage, sources said. |
