Panun Kashmir held a public meeting in Gangyal to apprise the people of the latest political developments. The meeting was attended by the convener Dr. Agnishekhar, senior leader Daya Kishen Koul, official spokesman Virender Raina and general secretary Sanjay Datattrya.
Agnishekhar said that in view of the revelations made by the former CM about thousands of kanals of forest land having been usurped by the ministers who have been raising hue and cry about 800 kanals of land allotment to SASB, a CBI enquiry needs to be held in the scam. The forest lands under the illegal occupation of these former ministers needs to be freed.
The members condemned the death of a migrant from Nagrota who was harassed in Kashmir in connection with a land dispute. The meeting condemned the brutalities committed by the police on innocent people giving vent to their feelings in a peaceful manner. Even women and children were not spared and subjected to merciless beatings. Firing on the protesters at Muthi is highly condemnable. People were even dragged out of their houses and subjected to harsh treatment and arrests. Govt. resorted to all kinds of tactics and the continuous imposition of curfew was one such draconian measure. Rapid Action Force has been called from outside and flag marches are being held to terrorize the innocent public. On the contrary no such measures were taken in Kashmir and protesters were given a free run to vandalize the public property, raise pro pak slogans and hoist Pakistani flags in the heart of Lal Chowk The harassment and torture meted out to Amarnath pilgrims at Banihal is highly condemnable, even women were not spared.

The meeting also condemned the police atrocities on Kashmiri Pandit demonstrators at Jantar Mantar where 75 KPs were arrested and hundreds were subjected to brutalities. The youth arrested have been charged with serious offences. Dr.Agnishekhar demanded that all charges against the youth may be withdrawn and compensation may be given to all the people injured in the police firing and other brutalities. The role of Shri Amarnath Sagharsh Samiti came for high praise for its most dynamic and dedicated leadership in spearheading this agitation. Equally praiseworthy is the role of the people of Jammu who have shown an unwavering commitment to a nationalistic cause. The meeting resolved that the need of the hour was to maintain complete unity of the nationalist forces and frustrate the designs of some vested interests that are indulging in rumor mongering to divide the community at this crucial juncture. The community members were requested to follow the directions of the Sangarsh Samiti in letter and spirit.
