| Jammu left to alone to sweat out | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 10 Humid and hot Jammu has been left to swelter and sweat out with power cuts touching even 20 hours a day in various areas. With no government in place, people have been made to wait for a good omen to come as there is no official version about the power supply situation. While the industry sector has been allowed to die due to non availability of electricity; the general trade and business too is suffering enormous losses. In the residential areas the power cuts which range between 12 to 18 hours have made life of the people miserable. The worst power cut is the mid night cut between 12 and 2AM which apart from causing inconvenience is also a grave security threat. It is not only the common man and city residents but big industrial houses and business empires are feeling the heat of unscheduled power cuts in Jammu and its adjoining areas following crisis in Gladini- mother feeding station supplying electricity to Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts. From small shopkeeper to big showroom shortage of electricity has affected everyone bringing down their profit margins and multiplying their miseries. Besides this several industrial unit holders in Jammu, fear if this trend will continue they might have to close down their production unit as they cannot run their units on alternate power sources for more than twelve hours. We are not getting uninterrupted power supply for even five hours and in its absence we cannot deliver our order leading to profit bookings. A Jammu based indiustrialsit said "Recorrrent power cuts do not allow us to keep our units running for a longer time.”They said majority of unit holders have been making up the deficient power supply by switching on diesel generators. "But it is not economical in the long run too, t hey add Unit holders said that running factories on diesel generators has burdened them with additional losses when decrease in production had already reduced the level of their earnings. They said if the Government failed to install transformers in the Gladini grid station on a war footing "some of us may be forced to shut our units temporarily." People in Jammu and its adjoining area continue to face hardships in the absence of power supplies and are waiting with fingers crossed to see that immediately after governors rule in the state the problem of shortage of electricity was solved. |
