| PDP pats its own back for all that happened | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 10 Engineering a sharp wedge between regions and religions and bringing down the Ghulam Nabi Azad government, the Peoples Democratic Party today patted its own back for taking a ‘timely and appropriate’ decision. In wake of the latest assuming political situation, the Peoples Democratic Party had a meeting of its executive committee in Srinagar today in which a view of was taken of the situation and future course of action was discussed. "As the PDP has time and again restated its commitment to stand by the people of the State, its pull-out from the Government has fully reiterated that resolve," the Executive Committee observed. PDP had convened a special session of its Executive Committee here today to discuss the State's political situation in the aftermath of the fall of Azad-led Coalition Government. The meeting was presided over by the party President Mehbooba Mufti. The meeting observed that the decision of the PDP leadership to pull-out from the Government mounted additional pressure on Azad Government to revoke the land diversion order that had resulted in mass uprising across the State. "Although Azad succumbed to the public and political pressure and withdrew the order, the same decision, if taken in time as was suggested by PDP, could have saved the situation from turning ugly resulting in the loss of around a dozen precious lives across the State," the meeting observed and paid rich tributes to all those persons who became the victims of the awful situation. "Our heart goes to the families of the deceased for their sacrifices have strengthened our belief in people's power." The meeting observed that inexcusable mishandling of the situation by Ghulam Nabi Azad, as the head of the Government, not only caused terrible damage to the traditions of communal harmony and brotherhood in the State, but also fueled alienation in various regions to the detriment of the peace efforts. The meeting commended the PDP workers of both the regions who withstanding all the odds defeated the nefarious designs of the enemies of communal amity. The meeting observed that despite strenuous efforts by the PDP leadership including the party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to get the land diversion issue resolved amicably, in the very first place, Azad's obstinacy led to the massive crisis that engulfed the whole State. "Had Mr Azad seen the reason in Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's advice, the situation could have been saved from spiraling out of control," the meeting observed. Referring to the background of unfortunate crisis, the meeting recalled how Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his tenure had resisted the attempts of then governor Lt Gen S K Sinha to damage the State's ethos and ecology through his prejudicial policies. "Sayeed's stiff opposition to Gen Sinha's sinister designs did not emanate from any communal feelings, but the consciousness about the sensitivities of the issue and the Amarnath Yatra's significance as the State's preserved heritage." The meeting resolved that the PDP leaders, activists and workers had sufficient strength and commitment to protect the State's cultural ethos and historical values that party's political agenda of reconciliation, amity, mutual trust and respect for shared values will emerge stronger in all the regions of the State through their untiring efforts. "PDP shall have a crucial role to play in putting the State back on the rails of peace and normalcy and shape up a prosperous future for its people." Given the unparalleled record of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed whose three-year rule brought State out of deep morass and suffering, the meeting observed that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's contribution is being widely acknowledged both within and outside the State. All the senior leaders of the party and members of the Executive Committee attended the meeting. |
