| SP welcomes governor's rule | | | Early Times Reporter SRINAGAR, JULY 11 The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Samajwadi Party today welcomed the dissolution of state assembly and imposition of governor's rule. SP's state president Sheikh Abdul Rehman said all recent administrative steps taken by the Congress-led government should be quashed as they were politically motivated. He also called for free and fair elections which are due in October. Rehman said people were not satisfied performance of the Congress, the National Conference and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). "There is a political vaccum in the state and the SP with secular credentials has a crucial role to play," he said. "The country is facing a great threat from communal forces. Hence in order to keep them out of power, the need of the hour is that all secular forces come together," said Rehman. The SP leader welcomed the decision of party's central executive to support the UPA alliance at the Centre. Meanwhile, a dozen prominent political and social activists joined the SP's J & K unit alongwith their supporters.
