Manhas demands restoration of regular power supply
7/12/2008 3:25:43 PM
Early Times Reporter
Jammu, July 11- Imposition of 15 hours electricity cut in Jammu province has only added to the woes of the people who are made to suffer during these days when the temperature has crossed 35 degrees and the humidity is at peak. This is height of discrimination with the Jammu region and non seriousness on part of the concerned department.
These views were expressed by BJP State General Secretary Shamsher Singh Manhas while interacting with a number of people who had called on the BJP leader at party headquarters to narrate their sufferings as a result of the long power cuts. They said that these cuts have not only affected the studies of the students but hit old aged people, housewives and patients. During nights, people can not sleep while in day time, they can not do any work in these sweating summers.
Manhas expressed surprise over the reports that 400 KWA transformer that got damaged a few months ago in Kashmir was replaced within a week while the one that has been damaged at Gladni in Jammu will take at least two months for replacement and till then the department will impose 15 hours cut daily. He said in these days, anything can be brought from any part of the world in less than a week’s time but unfortunately the transformer for Gladni will take two months for transportation from Jhansi to Gladni as per the version of the department officials. He criticized the department for not adopting any positive policy for providing relief to the people in case of incidents like that of Gladni.
The BJP leader warned the department not to test the patience of the people and take immediate steps to ensure that the power is restored round the clock in Jammu region. He said the BJP cadres will come on roads in case the problem is not solved within a week and thereafter the department will be responsible for the consequences.
