| Altaf demands extension in issuance of PICs | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar, July 11- Senior Gujjar leader and former Minister , Mian Altaf Ahmed today urged upon the Election Commission of India to extend the last date of issuing Photo Identity Cards (PICs) to the voters of Jammu and Kashmir State. He said the date is expiring on July 13 and lakhs of people of hilly and difficult areas of State are yet to get the cards in order to exercise their right of franchise in the ensuing Assembly elections. In a statement issued here today, senior National Conference leader said that issuing of voter identity cards by Election Commission of India in the State is a welcome decision and is a step forward towards holding free and fair elections in the state. In case dates of issuing cards are not be extended at least till end of the current month it would be great injustice with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and tribal and marginal communities in particular, Altaf remarked. Altaf also demanded that Election Commission of India should launch a special program in the State to identify the young and eligible voters to be inducted in the voter lists. Since lakhs of Gujjar nomads are under seasonal migration to upper reaches of Himalaya, Altaf strongly urged for making it possible for nomads of Jammu and Kashmir to have "Mobile Voting System" enabling them to cast their vote "Anywhere" in the ensuing elections.
