Early Times Reporter Jammu, July 11: On his first day into top ruling office of the state, the Governor NN Vohra got up close to the prevailing public woes and announced a major relief for the people of Jammu who have been reeling under worst power crisis of recent times. According to an official spokesman, the Governor today expressed serious concern over the power shortage in Jammu in the wake of damages caused to the 400 MVA transformer at Gladni Grid Station. Chairing the meeting of Administrative Secretaries at the State Secretariat in Srinagar this morning, the Governor said that while the cause of damage was being looked into the officers of Power Development Department must explore all possibilities to improve the power supply urgently. Due to damage to the Gladni transformer, parts of Jammu and Poonch and Rajouri districts are witnessing massive power cuts. The Governor mentioned that he had taken up the matter with the concerned authorities in Delhi who had promised to help in the time bound repair of the transformer which had been dispatched to the BHEL unit at Ranchi. In response to a letter from the Governor, the Minster of State for Commerce and Power, Mr Jairam Ramesh has informed that he would take personal interest in helping the J&K Power Department to get the damaged transformed repaired and also a new one supplied by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.
