| Director IIIM delivers lecture at BGSBU | | | Early Times Reporter Rajouri | July 12 In a function held at the centre for biodiversity of BGSBU and under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor BGSBU Masud A Chaudahary the Director IIIM, Dr. G.N. Qazi delivered a talk titled “plant and microbial biodiversity: prospecting for industry” which was attended by scientists, senior officers, researchers and faculty of the university. During the function, vice chancellor Masud A Chaudahary highlighted the need of biodiversity conservation and discussion his vision behind establishment of the CBS and the university’s resolve to give backj to the nature through such modest attempts of the centre. He said that the CBS and conceived well before the first brick was laid for construction of the campus. Giving brief introduction about the CBS, Chaudahary informed that presently the centre is fully functional and vibrant with several full time scientists and research fellows working on various R&D and extension projects. Qazi made a detailed presentation on the frontier areas for reaserch in biodiversity utilization and discussed in depth the potential areas for CBM-IIIM to work together. He expressed desire of collaborative research in the areas of micro biology, phytochemistry, tissue culture and biotechnology. After his lecture Qazi agreed and announced to work as visiting scientist at the centre for biodiversity studies. The university will soon sign a MoU with the IIIM on this regard. Prof. R.N.
