| Third front formation likely to be delayed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 12 The much publicized formation of the third front in Jammu and Kashmir seems to have been delayed in the absence of a solid support from prominent political leaders and former legislators. The CPIM headed by M. Y.Tarigami and the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party, led by Ghulam Hassan Mir, have not given up their efforts for forming the third front in the state. Though the two feel the need for a new platform in the state, not many prominent political leaders and former legislators have so far given their consent for joining the proposed front. In reply to a question Tarigami said "key political leaders would join the front when it takes a definite shape." Asked whether the fall of the Azad led Government and the imposition of Governor's rule had left no scope for the formation of the third front Tarigami said "the recent developments have no bearing on our efforts for giving a shape to a new platform." The CPIM leader did not want to set a date for the formation of the front. A month ago he had stated that the front would be formed within a few weeks. This time he is cautious because he does not seem to be highly optimistic on the birth of the third front. In the event of any failure on the part of Mir and Tarigami, five mainstream political parties, including the PDP, the Congress, the National Conference, the BJP and the Panthers Party, would measure swords in the ensuing election. The two factions of the BSP, besides a large number of political leaders, who plan to contest as independent candidates, were going to play a supplementary role. ++++++++++ Page 1 Fresh protests on Amarnath land issue to begin Sunday Jammu, July 12- The Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (AYSS) Saturday announced a fresh round of protests from Sunday to demand the restoration of 40 hectares of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) which was taken by following violent protests in the Kashmir valley. Samiti Convenor Leela Karan said at a press conference here that Sunday would be observed as a “black day”. “Black flags will be hoisted on rooftops of all houses and people will sport black badges. This is part of the next phase of agitation that we have launched for the restoration of the land to the Shrine Board,” Karan added. On July 15, Jammu will observe a road blockade as the part of the protest. The AYSS had been sharply criticized by the Jammu Bar Association, the Peoples Revolutionary Movement and a section of the Shiv Sena for suspending the shutdown call for a week last Tuesday. AYSS, a conglomerate of over two dozen groups, was agitating for the removal of Governor N.N. Vohra and seeking the return of the land to SASB. The land was taken over by the state government on July 1 after being allotted on May 26. The land transfer order was revoked after a massive agitation in the Kashmir valley against the state cabinet’s decision. This had also led the ruling alliance partner People’s Democratic Party withdrawing support to the government of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had to resign on July 7. The state is now under Governor’s role. Jammu reacted sharply to the government’s decision to revoke the land transfer order, observing shutdown for 11 days. Two people lost their lives and scores were wounded in clashes with the police. +++++++++++++++++++++++ Page 3 BJP extends support for July 16 bandh call of ASS Jammuties won’t rest till Vohra is ousted; land restored to SASB: Khajuria Jammu, July 12: Extending its support to the July 16 Bandh call of Amarnath Sangarsh Samti (ASS), Bhartia Janta Party exhorted upon he people to make the bandh a grand success so that a clear signal goes to incumbent Governor N.N Vohra that the people of Jammu would take rest only after his departure from state and cancellation of revocation order of land at Baltal and Domail.
