| Janipur Nullah caves in: 200 houses under threat | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 13 Come monsoon and common man is hit hard by the fury of the nature because of the irresponsible attitude of the administration and the corrupt watchdogs who are paid to make advance arrangements to avoid any mishap and danger to public life. One such incident came to life today at Janipur near Vegetable market where the Nullah flowing exactly behind the Jammu College of Physiotherapy Hospital caved in because of poor material and engineering bringing down with it half portion of the Hospital complex into the Nullah. The damage is extensive and Nullah is blocked thus putting the Hospital and around 200 houses down the line on the banks of Nullah to great danger. The residents today were shocked to see the half portion of the Hospital inside the Nullah blocking it completely thus furthering the danger to the rest of the colony and the Hospital building in case rain occurs today. The residents said that the poor material used to construct the Nullah was responsible and they had complained to the concerned department a number of times that Nullah was cutting through the soil of the colony but the departments turned a deaf ear to their pleas. Visibly shocked residents said that only a couple of days before had some people brought the crate wires to repair the damaged Nullah but they forgot all about it causing today's damage. If the rains come today the entire colony will be flooded and many houses washed away including the Hospital because of the blockage of the Nullah, said Dr Roop Lal Sharma, Chairman of the Jammu College of Physiotherapy Hospital. He said that event though he has brought some labour to clear the Nullah but huge concrete slabs were proving very difficult and only government agency has the machinery to clear it. Demanding immediate clearance and repair of the Nullah the residents have warned to target the department officials if any untoward incident takes place in the area adding the residents won't keep quit if any house is damaged. They appealed the governor to intervene in such matters personally and order immediate repair work so that the unpredictable rains do not washout the people's households in this season. The residents warned the government that coming agitation would prove more damaging for it if basic problems of the common man remain unsolved even in Governor's rule. |
