| Natrang stages Hindi play ‘Damad’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 13 Balwant Gargi’s Hindi play ‘Damad’ was staged here in Natrang’s Sunday Theatre series today. The play was directed by Anil Tickoo. Play ‘Damad’ revolves around a ‘Bagi’- a freedom fighter, Himmat Singh who knocks at the door of a family, who are waiting of their son-in-law on Lohri eve. The pleas of the old woman not to give shelter are hypnotically transformed by the ‘freedom fighter’, who pleads that to keep the flame of freedom burning; she has to give refuge to him. He even reminds her that her husband had sacrificed his life for the sake of freedom. The lady is moved that she not only give shelter to ‘Baghi’ (revolutionary) but makes him sit near daughter to pose as her husband only to avoid the police from arresting him. Police came and thought ‘Baghi’ to be real son-in-law; and went away but kept a watch on the house. However the ‘Baghi’ escapes after the police had left. Meanwhile, the original son-in-law also happens to come there and the story takes a new turn on the second entry of the police as they thought him to be the ‘Baghi’, when he was sitting besides his wife. The pleadings of the old lady that the second one is her lost her original “Damad” falls on the deaf ears. The pathetic feelings of a lady, who was not lost her husband but also sacrificed her “Damad” for the cause of freedom, are aesthetically portrayed in the play. The role of Baggi Himmat Singh was played by Gaurav Jamwal with full professional control. Kamaljeet Kaur played the role of the lady who gives shelter to the freedom fighter with lot of maturity. Mohit Sharma and Rahul Singh beautifully portyared the intense characters of Damad and the police inspector. Kamakshi Pattyal did justice to her character. The cast was supported by Mohd. Yasin and Rohit Verma. |
