Political power for Jammu party’s roadmap in ensuing elections: Prof Om

Jammu | July 13
BJP Vice president and spokesman Prof Hari Om today said that the mass upsurge in Jammu province over the land transfer issue is nothing but a manifestation of the pent up feelings and discontent and disaffection among the politically ignored and economically marginalized people of Jammu province.
In a statement issued here today, the BJP spokesman said the enthusiastic participation of the extremely angry, volatile and determined people of Jammu province in the ongoing historic and heroic struggle against the communal policies of the Congress, the NC and the PDP is a clear message to the powers-that-be in the State and at the Centre that they shall not accept the position of servitude and subordination any longer and that their struggle is not just against those who have been outraging their religious sensitivities by vitiating the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra, but also it is directed against those who have reduced the people of Jammu province to a nullity and to the status of second class citizens. It is a signal that they shall take rest only after they obtain political power which, they believe and rightly so, is the only panacea available to redress the past wrongs and neutralize the baneful influence of the Jammu-based Jai Chands, he added.
The BJP leader said that things in Jammu province have changed dramatically, with all the towns and villages witnessing massive outbursts at regular intervals. The fact that the frustrated, unnerved and puzzled political establishment brought from New Delhi several companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) should explain everything, including the unique nature of the ongoing agitation. What has been happening in Jammu province ever since the eruption of controversy over the land transfer issue could be legitimately described as a spectacular coup against the Congress (and its communal policies), as also against communal and pro-separatist elements within the State’s political establishment and outside, he remarked. He said indeed, Jammu province has proved the curtain-raiser for an epoch-making struggle. All this should tell the powers-that-be at the Centre that the people of Jammu province would not now allow them to deprive them of their legitimate share in the State’s polity and economy and that they would also not allow them to strike a deal with Kashmiri leaders over their heads, the BJP leader cautioned.
HE said that as announced earlier, “political power for Jammu” is the BJP’s roadmap for the forthcoming assembly elections. The BJP has no doubt whatever that the nationalist people of Jammu province would not divide their votes and vote in one direction, thus neutralizing those forces which are responsible for the miserable plight of the people of Jammu province, he observed.
On removal of Governor Vohra, Prof Hari Om said the demand for his removal is the well-considered opinion of BJP aiming at restoring the dignity and sanctity of the constitutional office. Since his nomination as the J&K Governor, N N Vohra has conducted himself in a way which has left no doubt whatever that his whole approach is biased and partisan, the BJP spokesman alleged. He said his party had taken proper notice of the conduct of Vohra as the interlocutor of the Union Government for the internal dialogue with various shades of opinion in the State. Since his role as interlocutor was not impartial, BJP had reservations about his being nominated as the Governor of J&K, he said. Unfortunately, since his nomination as the Governor of the State, Vohra by his conduct has only confirmed the apprehensions of BJP, he added.
The BJP leader further alleged that the way Vohra consented to return the land transferred to the SASB looked more as an expression of a deal struck between the fundamentalists in the Valley and powers-that-be in New Delhi. He consulted no body and even didn’t follow the due process of law; Prof Om said adding that he (Vohra) had the authority to return the land transferred to the SASB as the Chairman of the Shrine Board to the Government only when majority of the Board members had consented to the decision.
Regretting that no such procedure was followed, the BJP leader said that Vohra also didn’t feel it prudent to take other shades of opinion into consideration and his entire approach has simply conferred respect and legitimacy to fundamentalist and separatist opinion in the Valley and only served to catapult communalism and separatism to a centre-stage of state politics.
BJP, he said, also cannot ignore the fact that Vohra had given his unqualified support to the proposal of Wajahat Habibullah in the meeting of the Working Group on Centre-State relations and the proposal had sought to divide Jammu and was a step towards facilitating the Musharaff line on Kashmir. It seems that the happiness and satisfaction expressed by the various quarters in Kashmir having sympathy with separatist agenda on the nomination of N N Vohra as the Governor of the State is not without any basis, he remarked.
He said that his party urges the Central Government to take into consideration the total lack of faith of the Hindu community of the State in the person of Vohra and recall him at the earliest.
