Sahu directs for completing works by 5th April 2020

JAMMU, Mar 17: Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu today directed the concerned authorities to complete the desilting and cleanliness works of Ranbir Canal by 5th April 2020, so that farmers are benefited at an earliest by release of irrigation water.
The Commissioner Secretary said this during the inspection of ongoing desilting and cleanliness work at Canal Road, Shakti Nagar, Domana, Mishriwala, Chak Bhalwal, Sua No 1 Akhnoor Road, Kanachak, Dumi and other places on the canal. The desilting work is aimed to provide sufficient irrigation water to farmers for irrigation purposes. He directed the concerned authorities that silt and garbage retrieved from the canal should be properly dumped before releasing the water in the Ranbir canal. He also directed the concerned to repair damaged spots of the canal expeditiously.
The Commissioner Secretary directed the concerned authorities to constitute a Committee comprising of local elected representatives and municipal officials of the area to look after the ongoing work and aware the people about the need for maintaining the cleanliness of the canal.
He called upon the concerned officers to engage more men and machinery so that the work is completed within the stipulated time frame. He said that water would be released in the canal only after conducting a thorough inspection of the desilting works.
Sahu also instructed the concerned officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation to take necessary steps to avoid dumping of garbage near the canal.
The Commissioner Secretary also visited the Irrigation Guest House Kanachak where he enquired about its functioning and facilities available at the guest house.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Ashok Kumar Sharma besides other senior officers of concerned departments accompanied the Commissioner Secretary during his visit.
