JKLF DISTRIBUTES RICE, PULSES AMONG FLOOD VICTIMS
9/6/2006 7:43:11 PM

Srinagar, Sept 6 : After offering notable blood and money donations during the killer tsunami in India and last year's devastating earthquake in both parts of divided Kashmir, the pro-freedom groups–especially the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front led by Mohammad Yasin Malik, are providing relief material in terms of rice, pulses, warm clothing, blankets and first aid medicines to the people affected by the recent flood fury in the Valley.
A faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by senior leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has also nominated members of delegations, which will visit different areas hit by the flood to make on spot assessments of the damage.
Since last couple of days the JKLF delegations led by Mr Yasin himself have been visiting the flood affected areas in Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag to distribute relief material among the victims.
Chairman JKLF, Yasin Malik told KIP that the group visited eight places in Srinagar, six in Kulgam and today the delegation led by him was distributing relief material in Anantnag town.
"In the last three days so far we have distributed 300 quintals of rice, 1000 blankets, 25 quintals of pulses, large quantity of medicine, and plenty of warm clothes like sweaters and jackets," said Mr Malik from Anantnag on telephone.
Malik said the affected areas they visited so far are badly hit by the flood and require immediate help and attention. The areas, he said, include Achatal, Puranhaal, Gudar, Aree Gasnoo and Laisoo.
Sources in the JKLF revealed that the group has a clear cut policy to help the victims hit by calamities and natural disasters–wherever they may be and whatever faith they belonged to, in their own capacity.
At the time of tsunami JKLF had donated 100 pints of blood and cash amounting toRs. one lakh and the contribution during Kashmir earthquake was also noteworthy. Chairman of the group, Malik had visited quake-hit Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) with money and material then.
The Front delegations to different flood-hit areas included senior JKLF members with the likes of Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, Mushatq Ajmal, Tahir Mir, Mohammad Yasin Bhat, Mohammad Hussain Altaf, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Yaqub Rabbani besides others.
"The areas we visited have turned into tiny islands because of the incessant rains and all roads leading to these have been affected badly. We made a passionate appeal to the victims to help each other in this crisis time," said JKLF activist Altaf Ahmad. He appealed people to come forward for the help.
