| Placards, not bouquets, greet Guv | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 14 As the man of the moment and new ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, NN Vohra touched ground of the simmering winter capital city, there were black badges, protests and demonstrations. Instead of welcome bouquets, the Raj Bhawan entrance was dotted with placards with messages of protests against the Governor. This was perhaps first time ever that the Governor was greeted by protests in Jammu. Though the Raj Bhawan had dished out invitations to many protesting groups and others but the representatives of the agitating groups refused to have a meeting with him. Many other delegations, particularly from the National Conference, Congress, trade and industry etc called on the Governor and putforth their issues. Earlier, the protesters holding black flags and wearing black badges on their sleeves marched up to the Raj Bhawan shouting anti Governor slogans 'go back Vohra' greeted the Governor as he arrived here for the first time after assuming charge of the office. Convenor of the Shri Amarnath sangarsh samiti Leela Karan Sharma and BJP state chief Ashok Khajuria were at the forefront leading the protesters.The leaders demanded removal of Governor and announced that their stuggle would continue till their demands were met. The Sangarsh samiti had earlier given a Jammu bandh call demanding revocation of the land transfer order and removal of Governor NN Vohra from the Raj Bhawan. Meanwhile womens wing of the BJP today organised a signature campaign in Jammu in Rehari and mobilized common people against the Governors move.Large number of women workers of the BJP were seen moving in the area and conveying their message to the passers by before getting them to sign in support of oust Vohra campaign from Raj Bhawan. |
