| At Vohra's 'Palace', all business no politics | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 14 As the Governor NN Vohra visited the winter capital today, first time after assuming role of the state government; it was all receptive ears and strict business at the Raj Bhawan with very little politics. One after the other as delegations, with pre-fixed appointments poured in, the Governor gave his first attention to the prevailing power scenario in the region. Though shared concern over the deteriorating power situation but there was not fixed time frame assurance on undoing the snag at Gladni Grid station which has made life miserable in Jammu. An official spokesman said, "at Raj Bhavan, the Governor conferred with the officers and took stock of the situation with special reference to the supply of electricity in view of the damages caused to the 400-MVA transformer at Gladni, near here". Later interacting with several delegations, the Governor reiterated his concern on power scarcity in parts of the Jammu Division and said that urgent measures are underway to make the Gladni Grid Station functional. While talking to the delegations, Vohra said that the developmental tempo in the State will be given new impetus and priority attention is being accorded to the delivery of various services like drinking water, electricity, health services and road connectivity. The Governor renewed his appeal to people for maintaining calm and help in restoring normalcy, in order to steer the State towards progress and development. He appreciated the sagacity of the people in maintaining amity and brotherhood and said that this spirit of composite ethos makes the State unique in the whole country. The deputations presented memorandums to the Governor, listing various problems and demands. The delegations met by the Governor include a, 30-member Congress delegation led by Mr Dharam Pal Sharma, a 22-member delegation of National Conference, headed by Mr Ajay Sadhotra. A 20-member delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, led by Mr Ram Sahai, an 11-member delegation of Federation of Industries, Bari Brahmana and Gangyal, led by Mr Kuldeep Dogra and a 5-member deputation of Retailers Association, headed by Mr Yashpal Gupta, also met the Governor and apprised him of various problems. The representatives of various social and religious organizations also met the Governor and had a detailed interaction with him. Earlier at his arrival at the Jammu Airport, the Governor was received, among others, by Principal Secretary, Home, Mr. Anil Goswami, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, and Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, Mr. K. Rajendra. The Governor was presented Guard of Honour by a smartly attired contingent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He was introduced to the Divisional officers, who were present at the Airport to receive the Governor. |
