| Finally lawyers to don aprons on Thursday | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 14 After 15 days almost no work at the Courts, the Jammu lawyers will be finally donning their black aprons as the Bar Association today called off its strike and announced to resume the work by Thursday. This decision was taken in a meeting of the General House of Bar where it was also settled down that the lawyers will be taking part in shut down call of Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti on Wednesday. Meanwhile, some cracks in the ongoing agitation were showing up as the Bar Association criticized the role of Jammu based political leaders accusing them of failure to come forward and respect the sentiments expressed by the people of Jammu. The representative of the Bar said that some Jammu based leaders became a part of the land revocation plan for their petty political interests. Advocate Leela Kiran Sharma Convener of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Sangarsh Samiti was also present in the meeting. In the General House meeting held under the Chairmanship of its President Adv BS Salathia, explained the sequence of events of the ongoing agitation on the issue of Shri Amarnath Ji Land and the members of the BAJ also participated in the agitation since June 30, 2008. In the meeting it was disclosed that on the invitation of BAJ a meeting all political, social, trade, transport, students and religious organizations was held on July 12, another meeting of representatives of Bar Associations of Jammu region which was held on July 13, 2008. President BAJ informed the house regarding the issues taken in these two meetings. In the General House meeting the members unanimously decided to extent full Support to Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Sangarsh Samiti which is leading agitation regarding the controversy over the land which was earlier allotted to Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and thereafter under the pressure of Kashmiri Centric Politicians, Kashmiri fundamentalists, separatists and anti-national elements and revocation the order of allotment of land. BAJ also cleared that the support of Bar Association Jammu to the Sangarsh Samiti to strengthen the ongoing agitation so that the no body should gather an impression that people's of Jammu are a divided house regarding the issues on which the peoples of Jammu have launched an agitation and came on street expressing their sentiments regarding the discrimination with the people of Jammu. In the meeting BAJ reposed confidence in the leadership of Sr. member of the Bar Adv LK Sharma Convener of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Sangarsh Samiti and appealed to broaden its base and get confidence of people of Jammu belonging to different political, social and religious organizations. BAJ asked the administration that the cases registered against innocent people of Jammu Province including lawyers from Kathua and Samba Districts, during the ongoing agitation should be withdrawn forthwith and again repeat its decision for free legal assistance provided to the victims of the on going agitation, a committee of Advocates headed by General Secretary BAJ has already been constituted. Today the General House appreciated the role of Young Lawyers for providing free legal aid to the victims of the on going agitation even during unwarranted curfew imposed by the administration. |
