Earlier the shops of mutton, chicken and fish used to remain occupied with customers, but due to outbreak of coronavirus, people have started saying no to meat items which led to loss worth crores in this industry in the past one-week.
Meat sellers have been incurring a huge loss.
As per official figures, before the outbreak of coronavirus in Jammu region, where the chicken was selling at Rs 150 per kg, it is now being sold at Rs 60 to 80 per kg.
"Before the outbreak, around 400 quintal of chicken was being consumed in Jammu region, which has now reduced to two quintal," said an official.
