Jammu | July 16
Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is banking heavily on close friends in media circles to clear the air of mistrust and his role in the Amarnath land transfer issue in the eyes of people of Jammu region. And to do this Azad has decided to rely on local media and using his contacts in media houses to undertake some damage control exercise in order to divert attention of the people.
Interestingly, Azad, soon after submitting his resignation also gave lengthy interviews to local news channels and media houses and ensured that these channels broadcasted these interviews repeatedly to convey his message to the public that congress government under his leadership had taken the right decision by taking charge of the Amarnath yatra arrangements.
In all these interviews former chief minister had made delibrate attempt to touch the chord of residents in Jammu and has used the medium to his advantage to dispel the notions and responded to the rumours spread by vested interests against his person and congress party in particular.
Azad, tactfully diverts attention of the audience to other issues during interview and discussions and counts his achievements as chief minister in office. He never misses an opportunity to remind peopl eof Jammu that he as chief minister had worked hard for the development in the region. He also uses the medium to share his vision of Jammu and Kashmir and loses no opportunity to target his political opponents who according to him were more interested in playing vote bank politics than diverting atention for the welfare of the people.
Among other efforts congress party has started organising small meetings and interaction sessions with people through their leaders to convey the message to the masses that chief minister was not dabbling in politics and was making every possible effort to ensure than better facilities were created for the Amarnath pilgrims and no untoward incident takes place. The current issue of shortage of power in Jammu region has also given them the opportunity to convey to the public at large that despite leaving the office of chief minister the congress leaders were worried about the well being of the people of Jammu and doing their best to restore uninterrupted power supply to power hungry residents.
