| Police claims to solve mystery, four LeT militants arrested | | Kralgund, Baramulla grenade attacks | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 16 Police claimed to have solved Kralgund and Baramulla grenade blast mystery by arresting four accused involved in lobbing grenades on police party on July 9 in which one Head Constable Irfan Ahmed had lost his life. Official sources informed that all the four accused identified as Shahnaz Khan alias Umar alias Teepu son of Ghulam Rasool Khan, resident of Supernaghama Kralgund, Mudasir Ahmad Lone alias Hamid alias Molvi son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, resident of Kahipora Kralgund, Musaib Ahmed Bhat alias Nasir alias Chotto son of Abdul Hamid Bhat, resident of Model Towan Sopore and Farooq Ahmed Ganie son of late Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, resident of Watergam in Baramulla, all the members of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were arrested by police and confessed to possess three grenades and ammunition which police had recovered from a house. Sources informed one Head Constable was killed and another constable identified as Muzaffar Ahmed number 133 H had sustained injuries in the grenade attack and an FIR number 48/2008 Under Section 302, 307 RPC was registered in police station Kralgund, adding that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was framed who called some suspects for questioning on circumstantial evidences. During questioning SIT got a lead that a "module" of local trained militants of LeT outfit was actually involved in grenade lobbing incidents at Kralgund and Baramulla, said sources, adding "This group of militants was directly being operated by LeT Commander of Sopore, Rafiabad and Qaziabad areas Qari Usman. He held a meeting in an orchard coded as Taj Mahal in the outskirts of Sopore town with Shahnaz Khan, Mudasir Ahmed Lone and Musaib Ahmad Bhat where LeT commander had assigned them the task of lobbing grenades on security forces." The investigation revealed that Shahnaz who was group leader of this module assigned Musaib and Mudasir the task of lobbing grenade on police party of Kralgund or any other security force and to snatch AK-47 from them. The whole conspiracy was hatched in the house of one of their associates identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie of Baramulla. The investigation further revealed that Mudasir and Musaib lobbed a grenade on police party returning from their routine duty to police station at 6:45 p.m on July 9 resulting into on spot death of Head Constable and critical injuries to another Constable of police station Kralgund. Both the accused had their night halt at Mudasir's home, said reports. Sources maintained that during sustained questioning, the accused confessed to possess three grenades and ammunition which they have kept hidden in the house of Mudasir, resident of Khaipora in Kralgund. During search of the house, three hand grenades and one pouch with four AK-Magazines alongwith 120 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Police termed it a major achievement as it have arrested the accused within seven days after the incident took place and also prevented more grenade attacks. |
