| Shastri appeals PM to release DA installment | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 16 President National Mazdoor conference Subash Shastri has appealed the Prime Minister to release the pending installation of DA due from July this year at 11 per cent rate in favour of the employees of the central govt as well as the state govt in view of the increasing inflation and price hike of the essentials commodities. In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Shastri while giving facts and figures said that the price index which was 5.69 per cent on December 31 now has increased to 11.90 per cent on June 30. He said the rate of compensation was revised over six month one in January and July every year based on average of the consumer price index for previous months. This would be the 26th biannual increase since the recommendation of the 5th pay commission which was accepted by the central govt. in January 1996, he added. Continuing its decline for six successive months, Shastri said that the purchasing power of rupee fell by 40 paise to 23.81 paise in December 2007. The purchasing power of rupee has been further going down since April last year. Shastri said that prices of essential commodities have gone up considerably and there was no justification on the part of govt for withholding this installment for their employees and pensioners. He also suggested that there should be similar pay structures, perks and allowances to the salaried class throughout the country in view of globalization and hand some package offered by the private sector as to their staff also steep hike in process of essentials and cost of living. Shastri demanded that 6th Pay Commision recommendation be implemented simultaneously for central and state govt. employees across the country from January 2006 in one go. |
