| DDC Kathua discusses I-Day arrangements | | | Early Times Reporter Kathua | July 18 To discuss arrangements for celebration of Independence Day, 2008, a meeting of Celebration Committee was held here at Kathua today. District Development Commissioner Kathua, Miss Mandeep Kaur chaired the meet. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, AC (Rev), CPO Kathua, CEO Kathua, officers from CRPF and District Police, district officers, principals of various government and private schools and cultural personalities attended the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that the national event will start with Shehnai Vadan being arranged by the District Information Centre Kathua in the wee hours of Independence Day, 2008 at central places in the town. The main function will be held at District Police Lines, Kathua where the VIP will unfurl the National Flag and take solute at the mega parade comprising 50 contingents drawn from CRPF, District Police, Forest Protection Force, Home Guard, NCC boys and girls, tiny platoons from various government and private schools besides army pipers. Regarding other arrangements like security, setting, sanitation, issuance of invitation cards, first aid, transportation, drinking water, illumination etc. The DDC directed the concerned departments to ensure adequate and fool proof arrangements. The rehearsals for the celebration will be start from 8th of August, 2008 and full dress rehearsal will be held on 13th August, 2008. It was also decided that the students from government/private schools will present colorful cultural programmes and a committee of officers has been framed to finalize the items to be performed in the cultural programme. All the important state buildings shall be illuminated on the day. District Social Welfare Officer and Zila Sainik Board will distribute sewing machines and cheques to the beneficiaries on the occasion. It was decided that the meritorious students who has brought laurels to the district by securing top positions in matric, 10+2 and graduation will be honored on the occasion. Sham-e-Gazal would be arranged in “At Home” function being hosted by the Deputy Commissioner in which artists from Information Department and locals will perform. Miss Kaur stressed that all arrangements must be made well before time. She further emphasized for maintaining close liaison between civil and police for smooth conduct of the function. |
