| ‘Martyrs’ family yet to get family pension’, alleges Narainia | | ‘Prarthana sabha’ held in memory of martyr Vijay Singh | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 18 Shaheed Vijay Singh Memorial Committee, Jammu, today organized a ‘Prarthana Sabha’ in memory of Sub Inspector Vijay Singh of Jammu and Kashmir Police, who attained martyrdom while fighting against the militants on July 18, 1992 in Doda. Sub Inspector Vijay Singh was the first police officer who sacrificed his life in action in an encounter. The family members, on this occasion, performed a havan. Sub Inspector Vijay Singh was born in a family which has the history of serving in army and the police. His grand father Col. Vakil Singh was hero of Hussaini Wala operation of 1956 for which he was awarded Sena Medal and Vishisht Sewa Medal. His brother is also serving in police. Rama Narainia, who feels proud to be mother of Vijay Singh, said that today even after 16 years of sacrifice of his son, the Jammu and Kashmir police have not sanctioned pension in his favour. She demanded that the government should at least erect a statue of Vijay Singh at some place in Jammu and name a chowk in his memory. |
