| Equitable distribution of Assembly seats sought | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 18 Assembly of Jammu Notables for New Initiative held a deliberation to identify the burning issues relating to the people of Jammu region. Addressing the media persons in Jammu, the convener of the organization, Prof. Bhim Singh, Supremo Panthers party, said that the select committee of the assembly was constituted on July 9, in which many prominent personalities of Jammu were included, held marathon deliberation on issues which include constitution of Delimitation commission for Assembly constituencies according to the mandate of the constitution and increase the Assembly constituencies from 111 to 130 segments through Governor’s ordinance and equitable distribution of the Assembly seats according to the people’s representation act. He further said that Gujjars, Bakerwals and Gaddis should be given reservation in Assembly, grant of civil and political rights to the refuges of 1947. Their issues which were discussed by the select committee includes elimination of discrimination against Jammu region, restoration of Jammu’s identity, pilgrim tourism, revocation of Indus water treaty, empowering parliament to legislate in respect of at least four subjects namely Defense, External affairs, communication and currency he said and added the treaty of Indus water should be revoked as it has harmed the peasantry in Jammu region. Others who were present in the press conference include, Rishi Kumar Koushal, Prof. M.R Puri, Maj. Gen. (Retd), G.S Jamwal, Ghulam Ali Engineer and many others. |
