International rafting championship concludes

The four day 5th International Rafting Championship for river rafting in India on Sindh River in Sonamarg Kashmir concluded today. The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, A.M. Khanday was the chief guest at the closing function, Director Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah besides a good number of sports lovers, tourist, officers of various departments, media persons attended.
            The championship was jointly organized by the India Rafting Foundation and J&K Tourism Department. 16 teams including 3 foreign teams participated in the championship. Besides three women teams also took part. Foreign teams are from Czech and Ukraine. The championship offered competition in four categories Spirit, River race, Marathon and Slalom.
            Director Tourism welcoming guests and participants said that valley had a tremendous potential for adventurous tourism which is being explored by the Tourism department. He said Kashmir is bestowed with natural scenery like the Asia's largest Wullar Lake, Gondola at Gulmarg and Royal Spring Golf Course.
            DDC on the occasion said that our valley is rich in water resources, green pastures, Lofty Mountains and other scenic beauty. He asked the participants to act as ambassadors of the hospitality and advantage tourism potential they have enjoyed in the valley in their respective states and countries. He said holding this Kash Cup International Rafting Championship is a great achievement of the teams.
            Later, trophies and mementoes were given out by the chief guest to the best wining teams.
            In the spirit event, Army "A" bagged first, Army "B" second and Kashmir team third position. Similarly, in Head to Head Event Czech Republic team bagged first, Army "A" second and Kashmir team third berth.
            In the Women's Event, Czech Republic team won first and Air-force second position.
