Srinagar | July 20
Ahead of the foreign secretary level talks between India and Pakistan on Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday said all resolution process must be aimed at gaining momentum to tide over the fresh wave of disillusionment and alienation in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The resolution process of Kashmir issue should gain momentum to tide over the fresh wave of disillusionment and alienation in the state," senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said.
The sub-continent's security and stability would largely depend on how the two countries confront the challenges ahead, Baig, who was also the former deputy Chief Minister said in a public meeting at Kreeri in Baramulla district.
He also announced the candidature of Syed Basharat Bukhari, member of the state legislative council, for the ensuing assembly elections from Sangrama constituency.
Blaming National Conference for the recent Amarnath crisis, Baig said the people of the state including the PDP has paid a huge price for NC's follies.
A bill moved by CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousaf Tarigami and passed by NC in 2000 has provided unlimited powers to the shrine board, he said.
Papers on record revealed that on February 22, 2001 a high level meeting between the then governor Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha and Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had agreed in principle that the shrine board could exercise administrative and operational control on the stretch between Sangam-Amrawati and the holy cave, Baig claimed.
