| Chuni urges PoK refugees carve out strategy before Assembly elections | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 20 The executive members of SoS international have decided to change its strategy, keeping in view the changing political scenario both at state and centre level. Chairman of the organization Rajiv Chuni in meeting which he presided over today said that a delegation of SOS on last Tuesday called on Governor NN Vohra here and discussed the plight of refugees with him. He said being interlocutor of Government of India on Kashmir issue, Vohra promised to sort out the issue “The forthcoming state assembly election is also an opportunity for all the refugees to cause set back to all the political parties which ignored the refugee and used them as more vote bank” he said and added that refugees must sit together to carve out a strategy ahead of elections. He further said that successive state and central Government have discriminated with refugees while Kashmiri Pandits he said, given Rs 6600 crores as relief so far besides their children are also getting reservation in technical and higher education and government jobs too. “We are self responsible for our present day conditions as we remain divided and never raised our voice together” he said. He further said that the Congress had promised too solve our issues in election manifesto but later the issue did not get its place even in Common Minimum Programmes of the coalition government. Flaying the reported statement of former CM Azad that refugees have been permanently settled, he said that even the lands allotted to refugees for temporary settlement was encroached by local tillers. Prominent among others who addressed the meeting, were S. Sohan Singh, Suchwant Singh, Aswani Bali, Swaroop Singh and Baljeet Singh. |
