Flash floods toll is 19: Div Com

Jammu, Sept 6 About 19 people died and 22 others sustained injuries in the recent floods in different parts of Jammu division, the Divisional Commissioner said today.

Giving this information at a high-level meeting of officers chaired by the chief minister, the Divisional Commissioner Parmod Jain said preliminary reports stated that 286 cattle and sheep perished in the flash floods and heavy rains in the division.

Besides, 1212 houses were either partially or completely damaged in the heavy downpour and the number is expected to cross 2000 mark, he said.

Jain said torrential rains affected 6000 families in the division.

The authorties also evacuated 3,245 people to safer places during the four-day heavy downpour, he added.

The meeting was attended by speaker of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly Tara Chand, Minister for Flood Control Dillawar Mir, Minister for Power Nawang Rigzen Zora and Minister for Roads and Building, G S Charack.
